In Catania, in the heart of the majestic Etna lands, since the establishment in 1435 of the "Maestranza dei Vigneri," today operates "I Vigneri," a veritable wine sanctuary that, from generation to generation, has preserved ancient winemaking techniques and enhanced the territory of eastern Sicily. The protagonists of this story lay the foundations of their winery on the "Palmento," a basin usually carved into the rock, which, until 30 years ago, was used for pressing and fermenting musts and today symbolizes these extraordinary traditions. In this spectacular territory, Mount Etna offers a unique stage, fertile lands, and unparalleled microclimates. I Vigneri embody the legacy of this place, rediscovering ancient winemaking practices and bringing them to new heights of excellence.
As the seasons unfold, among the rows and vineyards, Salvo and his team immerse themselves in work that is an authentic dance with nature. The Etna bush vine, one of the oldest training systems rooted in the DNA of local viticulture, is the emblem of a respectful approach to the land and its resources, capable of providing order, beauty, and excellence. Thus, vineyard care translates into a productive philosophy also based on sustainability and environmental respect. Only traditional fungicides, such as copper and sulfur, find space among the rows, ensuring viticulture based on ancient farming wisdom. Every gesture is a tribute to the land and its generosity, an homage to the deep roots of a millennia-old tradition.
In the cellar, time seems suspended, as if each bottle encapsulated centuries of history and passion. Here, winemaking is an ancient ritual that perpetuates through the ages, with the force of gravity and human ingenuity as the sole protagonists. Oak, acacia, and chestnut barrels jealously guard the wine's secrets, while the bare lava stone, handcrafted by local masters, is a silent witness to an unbreakable bond with the Etna land. I Vigneri do not just produce wine but "human wines," timeless, the result of a history of labor, sharing, and respect. Each label, each bottle is a journey into the soul of this land, a tribute to life and its most authentic essence.
